Such was her fame worldwide that, more than any other female singer, Kathllen Ferrier is still remembered over 50 years after her death.
We are proud that Kathleen Ferrier was for a time a singing member of the Lytham St Annes Choral Society before she achieved international fame. She performed as a soloist with the society in Elijah in April 1942 and Messiah in December 1943.

Janet Baker appeared with the Lytham St Annes Choral Society in 1959 in a performance of Mendelssohn’s Elijah.

Janet Baker appeared with the Lytham St Annes Choral Society in 1959 in a performance of Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
After this performance the Evening Gazette said “The other soloists included the young contralto, Janet Baker, a singer of unusual sweetness and promise …”
Janet Baker was made a Dame of the British Empire in 1976.

Amanda Roocroft
Amanda Roocroft was marked out for stardom very early whilst a student at the Royal Northern College of Music where she studied with Barbara Robotham.
Amanda sang in three concerts with the Lytham St Annes Choral Society, firstly in 1989 in Mendelssohn’s Elijah. The second and occasion was at our 90th and Anniversary Concert when she sang in Verdi’s Requiem at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool. In both of these concerts she sang with our President, Barbara Robotham.
In May 2007, Amanda also sang in our Centenary concert at The Grand Theatre Blackpool
