Our Honorary Patron

We are delighted to announce that Bob Chilcott has become Honorary Patron of the Lytham St Annes Choral Society in 2025, the year of his 70th Birthday.

Bob Chilcott

Renowned composer and conductor Bob Chilcott has been appointed as the Honorary Patron of the Lytham St Annes Choral Society, following the success of the “Come and Sing” day on 1st March 2025. The event, which saw over 100 enthusiastic participants from both members and newcomers alike, was a celebration of music, community, and the powerful impact of choral singing accompanied on piano by Robin Stopford, and Chris Hodder and Tony Harrison on electric bass and drums.

Held at the Methodist Church on Church Road in St Annes, the “Come and Sing” day featured a series of workshops and a final performance of Chilcott’s own compositions, providing an inspiring opportunity for singers to engage with his work under his expert guidance. The event was met with overwhelming praise, with participants hailing it as a memorable and enriching experience.

In recognition of his long-standing contribution to choral music and his new special connection with the Lytham St Annes Choral Society, Bob Chilcott has agreed to take on the role of Honorary Patron. In this capacity, Chilcott will continue to inspire and support the society in its future musical endeavours.

Speaking about the event, Chilcott expressed, “It was an absolute pleasure to work with such a passionate group of singers. The ‘Come and Sing’ day was a fantastic opportunity to share music with the Lytham St Annes community, and I am truly honoured to accept this role as Honorary Patron of the Choral Society. I look forward to being part of its ongoing success and musical journey.”

The Lytham St Annes Choral Society, established in 1909, has long been a cornerstone of the local cultural landscape, known for its performances of a wide range of choral works. The addition of Bob Chilcott as Honorary Patron signals an exciting new chapter for the society, with the potential for future collaborations, performances, and outreach programs.

Lytham St Annes Choral Society's Music Director, Adam Robinson , added, “We are thrilled to welcome Bob Chilcott as our Honorary Patron. His music has inspired so many of us, and his support means the world to our singers and to the wider community. This is an exciting time for the society, and we are looking forward to continuing to grow together.”

The Choral Society extends its heartfelt thanks to all those who participated in the “Come and Sing” event and looks forward to its next musical projects, with the guidance and encouragement of Bob Chilcott.
